News

19th April 2005: It's been a while since any new additions, although I've made large updates and a reorganisation to the Traditional Storytelling page that isn't quite ready for uploading yet. But I haven't gone away, just been moving house etc. I'll be making all sorts of updates as soon as I can. Meanwhile suggestions, links, or corrections are all welcome as usual.

13th January 2004: Additions and expansion to the Traditional Storytelling page, especially on Africa; a few new countries have been added, and many updates to others. The Musical Instruments for Traditional Storytelling page has additions and updates, including links to audio clips.

2nd January 2004: More updates to the Traditional Storytelling page, especially to Central Asia; and Serbia has been added. There are now links to audio clips and even video of traditional epic singers. The Musical Instruments for Traditional Storytelling page has various updates, including links to photos.

3rd November: More updates to the Traditional Storytelling page - extra countries covered, and added details on Mali.

31st October: Updates to the Traditional Storytelling page, which now covers another six countries and has added details on several others; Musical Instruments for Traditional Storytelling has gained an instrument, including links to photos; the links pages - Storytelling Links, and Story Links - have both been updated with more links.

21st October: Two new pages, the first on Humorous Stories and Storytelling - this is a companion to a newly published feature article surveying humour in the oral tradition, in Storytelling Magazine (National Storytelling Network, USA), and includes references and resources. The page will be growing for some while as new resources are added. The second new page is How To Tell A Story - an essay by Mark Twain giving instructions for humorous storytelling.

10th October: A new page on Musical Instruments for Traditional Storytelling gives details of over twenty instruments used around the world, particularly in bardic storytelling. The page is a companion to the Traditional Storytelling page, which is now updated to cover over twenty countries.

10th September: Yet more content for the Traditional Storytelling page, which already covers thirteen countries from China to Mali to Transylvania!

1st September: Lots more content for the Traditional Storytelling page, which will carry on growing.

24th August: A brand new page, accessible from the Gallery, is on Traditional Storytelling. It gives information on the many cultural traditions of storytelling, giving insight into the worldwide oral tradition. Also the two links pages have expanded to over 960 links, and new categories of Classic Tales and Collections, and Epics and Myths, have been added to the Story Links page.

17th June: The Storytelling Links page now has 700 reviewed links, and the Story Links page now has 200 reviewed links - the biggest selection anywhere!

17th May: Lots of new questions answered in the FAQ, and two major new compilations in the Articles section.

6th May: New links, especially in the History of Stories and Storytelling section.

19th April: Another new category on the Storytelling Links page: Favourite Storytelling Websites, as recommended by others. Also various new links.

15th April '03: Major expansion and reorganization of categories within the Storytelling Links page. New categories include: Children's Literature; Cultural Traditions of Storytelling; History of Stories and Storytelling; Classic Stories - Studies and Projects; Special Interests - Applying Storytelling: Organizational Storytelling, Storytelling and Education, Storytelling and Healing, Narrative Therapy; Story Art and Illustration. Plus many new and revived links.
